Angel Saa was born in 1997 in the Bronx, New York. He was first exposed to the arts by his mother, who inspired in him the urge to be creative. Lessons from his mother spanned from art history to viewing classic cinema. In consequence, he took his first class in art history during his senior year of high school, where he was exposed to the influences of Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, and Jean-Michel Basquia. He began his higher education pursuits by earning his BA in communications with a concentration in digital media productions at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. It was during this period that he picked up his first camera and discovered his passion for photography. He drew his first inspiration from childhood memories, local neighborhoods, and the need to change his environment. His curiosity compelled him to explore his past experiences and manifest them through his craft. Angel’s creative upbringing and collegiate photographic pursuits drove him to create collages and other forms of art that have affected his style of photography. He now creates conceptual composited images that allow him to explore and push his own boundaries. With this ambition in mind, he decided to make his growing hobby into a lifelong pursuit, the first step toward which involved enrolling in graduate school to earn a master’s degree in photography at the Academy of Art, San Francisco. Here, he diversified his portfolio and deepened his understanding of photography. This has developed his fundamental and conceptual skills in fine art, self-portraiture, portraiture, and still-life photographs. Moving forward, he is now native to the Bay Area and prepared to expand his horizons in the world of professional photography.
